The Project
Old Soul, New World is a modern kitchen renovation inside a Victorian farmhouse in Evanston, where historic charm meets warm, contemporary design. The clients wanted to replace their industrial flat-white kitchen with something more inviting—an earthy space featuring modern shaker cabinetry, a striking emerald green backsplash, and improved organization. The result is a timeless yet modern kitchen designed for gathering, cooking, and everyday living.
The Client
As empty nesters entering a new chapter, our clients envisioned a kitchen that felt warm, organized, and deeply connected to the character of their Victorian farmhouse. After years in a minimal, industrial-style kitchen, they craved more texture, color, and functionality. Their priorities were clear: an earthy palette, high-efficiency storage, and a memorable emerald green focal point that would anchor the entire space.
Inspiration
This kitchen draws inspiration from English garden rooms and the quiet romance of botanical color palettes. Layered greens, warm woods, and handcrafted details create a mood that is both fresh and nostalgic. The emerald green backsplash became the heart of the design, bringing warmth and depth to the room, while slim shaker cabinet profiles and sculptural lighting introduce a refined, modern sensibility.
Our Approach
With architectural clarity and respect for the home’s Victorian roots, we redesigned the kitchen to balance modern functionality with soulful, historic character. Custom modern shaker cabinets elevate organization through pull-outs, vertical dividers, and optimized pantry storage. A sculptural tambour island adds movement and warmth, while the mixed-pattern green tile backsplash brings rhythm and visual interest. Every material and detail was chosen to transform their once industrial kitchen into an earthy, modern, and beautifully organized space.
